What is in a name?

So we have came to the conclusion that the System using the name Jaeci for a collective name with various groups of people is getting confusing. We usto use Jaeci Shadowstar as the collective name mostly cus at that point jaeci was the front the majority of the time so 9 times out of 10 it was jaeci. But now she is barely out ever so it works we all just answer to jaeci with specific people. But now that we are getting closer to having the baby (the body is almost 7 months pregnant) she is emerging more and it is causing confusion. We are unsure at times when people say "jaeci" do they want Jaeci (collective) or jaeci (individual). Has anyone had this problem? And should we create a new collective name to aliviate the confusion cus once the baby comes it will be mostly jaeci, Chloey and Lia out (they are the maternal ones).

We usually get called Chris in RL, even though it's usually Dat. Dat, though, is not a real human name (or at least a very unusual one) so Chris is easier. She used to be our main front, also, so there's a good degree of carry-over.

The body's birth name is natalie. So we tend to use that in official situations....but between friends and partners we use each individual name....most of the time they can tell exactly who is out anyway.

I'm not sure I completely get what you're saying-- you named your system after one person and now it's confusing because you can't tell if someone is referring to her or the whole system? If it gets confusing, I would say by all means change it-- the way we think of it, it's just so people can have a way to tag/address you without using the body's name.

Our take on it: Names are significant and they have power. So assuming a new name because you've changed is a good thing to do both to acknowledge the changes in you as a Collective and to leave the 'old' you behind.

Metaphysical claptrap, possibly, but that's the general feeling here.

hard question. the front's name is really jennifer (her given name) b7ut she prefers to go by dresden. "jennifer" is actually the core, but she is NEVER out. maybe if posible having a meeting and deciding on a collective name that everyone is comfortable with. this worked for me, but i am not sure how your system handles decisions. we try to "vote", sorta. i am probly not being much help. sorry. good luck.

Our ex-main fronter goes by Linc, which is short for Lincoln. After getting introduced several times as Linc, even when she wasn't fronting, we decided on Link as a name for everyone. It's mostly so we can introduce ourselves in a non-gender-specific way, no matter who is fronting. We haven't really had any problems with it, though--it's like being called by your last name.

But if you're having problems, then yes, you should change the name.

Online we call ourselves Weare when talking as a system. Though, usually we go by whoever is out at the time. IRL though we all go by Jessie or Jessica as Jessica is the name of the body and the main front is Jessie. *sigh* It does get confusing. Very few people have even tried to get to know us as individuals so it's just something we got used to, pretending to be the same person for simplicity. It is nice to be known separatly though.

As for what you guys should do? Not sure. It's really up to you all. I mean, we have two children though for the most part they're considered to be Jessie's kids.
