echoes

Has anyone ever had a problem with someone saying things like "she said" or "she asked" after you say or ask things? It's getting kind of annoying. I don't know who it is and they won't stop. This has been going on for a decade or so, but they don't do it all the time. Once they start they don't stop for a while and I never notice them stopping, just notice when they start up again that they haven't for a while. I think if I were to shout "knock that off!" I'd just hear "she shouted" in return. Adult voice. No one I recognise.

I know it's a minor thing, but it's getting on my nerves.

I actually used to do that when I was a kid - sort of mentally narrate my life as if it was a story. (Actually, when I was little I'd sometimes do it out loud without thinking, heh.) I think it probably came from reading a lot and just getting locked into a sort of narrative style of thinking.... In fact, if I think about it consciously now, it sometimes starts to happen again.

If it's nobody you recognise, perhaps it's just your brain playing a similar trick? Or perhaps someone else in your system is doing it "out loud" without thinking, as I used to? Interesting, anyway; I've never heard of anyone else who had that happen, I always thought it was just me being odd.

I'm afraid I have no tips for getting it to stop, except perhaps "try not to think about it", which I realise is easier said than done.

lol, man, I actually had one do that for a little while after watching Family Guy one day. It was my Muse, and I think she found it funny. She'd never admit it, but she'd also only pinpoint one or a few with any of her annoying pranks...

YES. and it can be SO aggravating. I think i know who does it too. She doesnt do it all the time. I think she does it just to be annoying. Then I yell at her to shut the hell up because I dont need a narrator!! :GRRRR

Around here, anyone who says that is being sarcastic, usually about the reliability of the cable company or a particular piece of machinery, but sometimes about politics.

Bush talking about sending troops into battle: "This will be a quick, decisive action and will not take longer than two weeks."
Jay: "He said."

you have a narrator in your head.

Well, a few of us have been known to do things like that after MMORPGing for a few days straight with no sleep... but that's about it. ;-)
