People who want to act out and evade responsibility for doing so will jump on whatever excuse is most readily available to them, under their circumstances and within the groups they associate with. Whenever you get something that might by any stretch of the imagination be seen as a plausible reason to have no control over one's behaviour, some kind of excuse-making subgroup is going to come out of it eventually. It seems that people often tend to assume that what goes on in their particular group is worse or more outrageous or irresponsible than other groups, but it's endemic to any kind of human (or otherkin...) group, pretty much.
