Yes, basically after we got tired of arguing symptoms/signs with each other.. nothing like a little lively debate... we basically came to the point where there is no way to set out some characteristics for multiplcity. I often think the more someone fits into the stereotypical/disordered checklist the more likely I am to wonder about authencity. With that said, I have freinds up north that are so much like Sybil I joke with them all the time, so I am not saying all that do are faking.
And like you and elenbarathi said (sorry can't work out how to do the whole linky thing) I know for us it is pretty hard to spot we are multiple, at least from people that we haven't informed. At the very most we are thought of as diverse or changable. In a world that views multiplicity as something freakish we aren't exactly into advertising ourselves.
