Rick and Faith are reading this book called House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. He's the brother of the singer Poe. anyway, some of it sounded to me like it could be a metaphor for multiplicity.

it's not, he's not multiple that I know of, but it still sounds like it to me.

anyway, basically, inside this house, is a door that shouldn't really lead to anywhere, cos the space doesn't allow for it, but it leads into this hallway anyway. the hallway keeps expanding and changing, sort of reflecting the emotional state of the people who live in the house.

anyone heard of/read it? any thoughts?

I've heard of it to. Isn't that her father, though? She has an entire song called House of Leaves.

We read that ages ago. He didn't strike us as being multiple. It's a takeoff on the Winchester House legend. Stephen King used the same house as the basis for Rose Red.

Let me try posting this again...

That is my favorite book ever. There really isn't any one way to explain what happens in the stories, so the explanation of it is really up to the reader. The only concrete thing that's been said about the book is that it's about MZD and Poe's experiences growing up (metaphorical experiences obviously.)

I'm not sure I made sense in this comment or not. Either way, great book.

the backstory:

Tad Z. Danielewski was father to Mark Z. Danielewski(the author of house of leaves) and Anne Danielewski, aka Poe.

Mark wrote a book, using metaphor to illustrate his feelings on not only his father's death, but also to a number of recordings of his father he and poe found after Tad's death.

the find of the recordings moved Poe and Mark deeply.

Poe wrote the album "Haunted" to mirror House of Leaves. The two companion each other, and most readers believe that you cannot solve the mystery of one without the other.

House of Leaves the song is on Haunted, and is a direct reference to the book, as are tracks like "Haunted" "Exploration B" and "Dear Johnny".

Both siblings thank and reference the other in their respective works.

do you have a website on the legend? I never heard of it.
I mean, I've heard of the winchester house...just no real legends surrounding it, unless you count the haunting...ok, never mind...it seems I'm on crack today.

would you believe I haven't started it yet?

I have it sitting next to me right now, and I've listened to Haunted a gabajillion times, and i've taken down all the lyrics, AND MADE FOOTNOTES ON THEM...and explored some theories based on it, but I HAVEN"T CRACKED THE SPINE.

well, not exactly true, I read a bunch of it, but this book, man...if you leave it too long, you completely lose your way...but I guess that's the point.

Hey yeah, Shirley used it too! Well, there's your multiplicity connection, since Shirley also wrote a book The Birds' Nest (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0317277278/ref=ase_astraeaswebmulti/103-9348129-4651055?v=glance&s=books) about multiplicity -- keep in mind that it's Shirley's unique take on multiplicity but she did do some research with a psych prof, This was before 3 faces of Eve. In fact there's some reason to believe that the guys who wrote 3 faces rushed it into print and also rushed a movie deal to compete with Lizzie, the film of Shirley's book.

Go Shirley, we love YOU!!!

Ah, gotcha. I love Poe. Haunted was a bit creepy for the youngers in the system, but personally, I've always loved the fact that she used actual recordings of her father's voice in her songs. She must have really loved him.
